Michael Griesbeck,

was born in Munich in 1970.

While his schooling and education took place in Munich, he lived near Murnau almost every weekend from the age of 3, close to the "Münterhaus," in the heart of the Blue Land. These two different "worlds," experienced over decades, inevitably shaped his perspective and work.

"I am particularly drawn to experimental and complex material works, driven by curiosity, leading me to search for entirely new approaches and interpretations.

My mostly informal works often show a symbiosis and transformation, where I combine natural elements and processes, the results of which are less controllable, with stylistic devices from the hectic, straightforward city life. Another, almost overarching goal is to derive my own, recognizable handwriting."

It all began with dried, "shelled" colors – the Séries "Broken-Colors", followed by spaghetti embedded in spackle – the beginning of the series "Noodles."

A later series focuses on the simulation of construction steel mats. Ropes on canvas, embedded and "rusted," to account for the field of construction technology and the crazy developments in the Munich real estate market.

A few years later, this evolves into the series "Shoetime," an expressive interpretation of the loss of quality of life resulting from Corona. "No Sex – No Drugs – No Rock´n Roll" - painted and transformed with a high heel (see videos). Through this controversial catalyst, Griesbeck rebels and interprets this phase of life restriction in which, through the painting process itself, the shoe is simultaneously elevated to an independent sculpture.

The latest series "Shibari" is another transformation and at the same time a reference to our society and politics. The focus is on the relinquishment, as well as the loss of responsibility through realized restraints, the ropes of which are transformed on canvas. "Shibari" shows an interpretation of powerlessness and surrender while simultaneously bridging a gap in our society.

You can find more about each series as a path next to the works themselves.

Michael Griesbeck trained as a bank clerk and later studied finance. For over 20 years, he has been a commercial manager and technical director of the Optima Group, a family-run, prestigious Munich-based Real Estate and project eveloper.

He has been developing his works as a self-taught artist since 2005.
